Asthma seems, over the last few decades, to have become one of the biggest health issues affecting the world’s population. Although it is treatable, that is no consolation to the millions of sufferers worldwide who have trouble breathing when they have an asthma attack. It is a condition that affects people on a daily basis and is serious enough to cause death if not dealt with in time.
Assessing and monitoring the condition is the first important step towards treating asthma. Depending on the condition, there are three main steps for treatment and they are; preventing attacks, relief from the asthma attacks and emergency treatment when a serious attack happens.
The first preventative treatment to be supplied to every asthma sufferer is a Bronchodilator which can give relief from small attacks for sufferers who may only ever need this as a form of medication. Other medication is available for patients who have mild but frequent attacks like a mastcell stabilizer or leukotriene modifier and oral glucocorticoids for patients with serious asthma condition but they will all still use a standard reliever as well.
Asthmatics must also identify the triggers that cause the allergic reaction in them and find ways to reduce or eliminate them. Asthma is very strongly associated with air pollution, which causes the condition to worsen in asthmatics.
While the medications can sometimes help control the symptoms of asthma, it is often a temporary measure only and does not address the root cause and besides these prescription drugs can cause side effects such as fatigue, dizziness, depression, impotence, liver damage and more. Pharmaceutical drugs are formulated to make the bodies own immune system to take over but more people are now using natural medicines which are treating the cause of asthma instead.
The task in case of asthma is to strengthen the weak body systems and soothe and calm the hyperactive systems and this is done by substances called catalysts. However, the natural medications that are used contain natural catalysts which do not cause any side-effects and help restore the body’s equilibrium.
Breathing techniques such as pranayam, buteyko and yoga practices also are helpful as they naturally help the breathing and the general well-being of patients. The best way forward for an asthma patient is to eat a balanced nutritional diet that will help restore the immune system that has taken a great deal of punishment and use natural medication that does not leave harmful chemical in the system but most importantly to control their asthma condition.
